Paris Fashion Week
FHCM – the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode promotes French fashion on a global stage. This council is the longest established one of the four, founded in 1868 as Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. Amongst the 100 designers, Haute Couture and creation have a major impact. It’s members are chosen by certain sophisticated criteria and on invitation only. Acne Studios, Balmain, Celine, Chanel, Chloe, Lanvin, Loewe, Juun.J are only a few of them designers enrolled in Paris. Training and further support for the young generation is soon to come.

Milan Fashion Week
CNMI – the National Chamber of Italian Fashion was established in 1958. It’s a non-profit association, co-ordinating and promoting the development of Italian fashion internationally. Recently there was an agreement on the fashion calendars signed with France, which gives the CNMI the status of being an international protagonist in the fashion scene. Fashion brands can apply for a membership via a admission application. Current members are for instance Fendi, Furla, Guccio Gucci, Moncler, Missoni, Valentino and many more. CNMI integrates a special sustainability committe into their programm, which formulates different projects especially aligned for creating a good future for fashion.

London Fashion Week
BFC – the British Fashion Council founded in 1983 aims to further the interests of the British fashion industry by their strategic five pillar system including business, reputation, education, digital and investment. London Fashion Week Women’s and London Fashion Week Men’s are held bi-annualy to present British fashion design to international celebrities, press, buyers and more. The BFC published the Designer Fact-File, an online handbook for designers including in-depth statistic-based reports on the fashion industry. Therefore see: The Value of Fashion (2010, figures updated in 2014), The Future of Fashion (2012, through British Vogue on Youtube) and Commercialising Creativity (2014). They enrole contests each year. Guess who made it to the top designers in 2017? Amongst the winners were Virgil Abloh from Off-White, Raf Simons and JW Anderson.

New York Fashion Week
CFDA – the Council of Fashion Designers of America is a not-for-profit trade association formed in 1962 and since then the leading body of the fashion industry of America. Their goal is to strengthen the impact of the american fashion to the global economy, featuring 500 desigeners from all over the USA including Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Rachel Zoe. CFDA is holding the CFDA fashion awards once a year and officially organizes the NYFW through the fashion calendar (they acquired in 2014). Membership in the CFDA is by election and invitation-only, the process for admissions takes place annually each spring.
What can we learn by that? Now we know, that these organizations are key players in the fashion world.
