We all are influenced – Let’s be honest!
Do you know this situation: you see a new trend coming up, disliking it at the first sight, but after a few weeks you notice yourself liking it? You are automatically searching for it in the shops, right? That’s probably how I felt with this ruffle and embroidery trend. I saw it for instance in the fashion shows of Gucci Resort 2017, Balmain and Chloé RTW Fall 2016. Since a few months the fluffy puffy “rufflies” are all around Insta, Blogs and Social Media. When I went into our Zara in Hamburg I thought I am in a blogger shop. That’s todays way how the fashion industry works. Nothing new, but that was a situation where I was really getting the point: in some way shops and bloggers are dressing us, we’re not dressing ourselves concerning to our favours sometimes. At the moment I really have the felling, that especially in Germany, style variety decreases. We have to ask us the question who influences us. I mean influencers are not called influencers for nothing.
Me – a highly “influenceable” person
Quite funny that I’m telling you this whole story as I’m a really influenecable person. A nice example for me is this dust-pink blouse with ruffles all over it and slight embroidery. Nowadays I really love it, especially the flared sleves with plissee folds all over them. It’s the perfect lovely, girly piece. But there was a time not long ago, when I didn’t like it that much. My wardrobe had not much of that all…
Do you know this process?
Honestly I also love hiphop elements, but it’s the good mix of all which I prefer. As you might know I’m studying fashion design in Hamburg. When I watched all those runway shows and fashion highlights for initial inspiration I automatically changed my style and the way I dressed in a way, too. I guess many of us know this process.
Is being influenced a bad thing?
That we get influenced easily by others just shows, that we’re maybe not that content and selfconfident with what we do – wether it’s style or behaviour. We have to belief more into ourselves and start trusting the things we do. That’s such an important process those days when everyone tries to be better then everybody else. What we really take a hold on is definitely not to take things too seriously – fashion is a lifestyle and we should better do what makes us thrive and be happy the most!
What we can also keep in mind is that fashion is always a process and being influenced also has positive sides to it. We solely have to find the good balance of being influenced by others and staying true to ourselves. Ironic, that this sounds like the purpose of life after all <3
