HOW TO WASH SILK

AHIMSA SILK IS A VERY FINE, LUXURIOUS MATERIAL AND THEREFOR NEEDS APPROPRIATE CARE. THE SILK FIBERS DEMAND SOME EXTRA SENSITIVE WASHING TO LAST AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. I RECOMMEND WASHING SILK BY HAND WITH A SPECIAL SILK DETERGENT. YOU CAN FIND THESE DETERGENTS ONLINE OR IN SPECIALIZED STORES. THE LESS YOU CLEAN THE SILK PRODUCTS, THE LONGER THEY WILL LAST.

YOU CAN WASH THE SILK PRODUCT AS FOLLOWS: FILL COLD TO SLIGHTLY WARM WATER INTO A TRAY. PLACE AND MOVE THE SILK IN IT. AFTERWARDS AD SOME SILK DETERGENT AND SLIGHTLY PRESS THE SILK FABRIC TO CLEAN IT. AVOID RUBBING THE MATERIAL AS THE SOFT FIBERS GET BROKEN AND TURN INTO A ROUGH SURFACE FAST WHEN IN A WET CONDITION. WHEN THE DIRT IS REMOVED, PLACE THE SILK PRODUCT UNDER FRESH WATER UNTIL THE MATERIAL DOESN’T SHOW DETERGENT RESIDUES ANYMORE. PLEASE DON’T WRING THE SILK OUT. SOLELY PRESS THE SILK SOFTLY TO GED RID OF EXCESS WATER AND HANG IT UP IN A DRY SPACE AFTERWARDS. IF YOU WANT TO IRON YOU FIND ANOTHER ARTICLE ON THE BLOG.

PLEASE NOTE

SILK SHOULD NOT BE WASHED IN A MACHINE OR PUT INTO A DRYER, BECAUSE THE HEAT WILL AFFECT ITS SURFACE PROPERTIES NEGATIVELY AND SHORTEN THE MATERIALS LIFETIME. IF YOU DON’T GET RID OF THE DIRT THROUGH HAND WASHING, PLEASE BRING THE SILK PRODUCT TO A CLEANING SERVICE.

SILK SHOULD NOT BE LEFT SOAKING, BECAUSE THE FIBERS OPEN AND BECOME FRAGILE, ENABLING THE DIRT TO MOVE EVEN DEEPER INTO THE MATERIAL.
